Finding Inspiration

“Success is stumbling from failure to failure with no loss of enthusiasm.”
-Winston Churchill

This week has been a trial in keeping on track (excuse the pun, haha).

I’ve always been one to get disappointed in myself easily.  If things don’t go perfectly the first time, it’s easy for me to see myself as having immediately failed, and it’s hard to rev myself back up again.  I’ve known this for a long time, so I knew that trying to change my attitude and be more motivated and optimistic would be one of my hardest challenges on this journey to achieving my goals.

#MotivationMonday And Then Things Got Real

As powerful as our legs are, as magnificent as our lungs and arms and muscles are, nothing matters more than the mind.
—Scott Jurek, Eat & Run

So classes started last week.  After the first day I wondered why I ever complained about being bored and having nothing to do.  Suddenly my days were packed with reading, studying, and basically trying to stay on track and organized.  But that’s school for you.

I talked to my coach and started easing into some workouts.  It was just some easy biking, warming up, and feeling around in the weight room.  I was a little sore, but in that way that makes you feel good about yourself.  Or at least, it made me feel good about myself.  This week should bring a real step into more substantial workouts, which I’m looking forward to.

#MotivationMonday Even Lazy Days Can Be Productive

Today has been a lazy day.  I woke up around 7 like I usually do, had a simple breakfast of eggs, toast, and tea, and made sure everything was in order for the first day of school tomorrow.  I have a pretty long to-do list to get through, but since today is a holiday (Labor Day), most places and offices are closed, and thus I have to just wait until tomorrow to get working on it.

Breakfast for today

A lot of my friends have said that they’re dreading the start of school, and for once, I feel the opposite.  I can’t wait to get started on working on my goals.  This week is supposed to also start my return to working out, which I’m more than ready for.  I feel like my body is deteriorating right before my eyes!  I’m sure it’ll feel much more satisfying to be sore, and feel like I’m actually doing something with my free time instead of just watching Hulu.

Anyway, my Monday has been spent in perpetual anticipation and a heightened sense of motivation.  I’ll let you know how things go later in the week.

Until next time,

New Year, New Motivation

The new school year is starting, and as usual I am extra motivated to do well, especially since it’s my senior year.

Not only am I extra excited for school, but for once I’m also excited for pre-season training!  It’s a shock, I know.  After the experience running abroad this summer, and knowing with a lot more work I could be a much better sprinter, I’m just looking forward to hitting the weights and gaining some strength back, as well as working on my running technique.  My coach told me I’ll be lifting 4 times a week when I get back to it, and I plan on slowly working my way into a much healthier diet and lifestyle, which I will document here.  I’m notorious for eating horribly and having it not affect my body too severely, but I really want to make that switch and see just how eating right and getting more sleep will help me.  Wish me luck guys!!

In other news, I move to my new apartment tomorrow, and I can then finally get started on getting settled and preparing for school.  I won’t start strength conditioning until next week, so until then I’ll just be focusing on school and getting a head-start on the healthy lifestyle goal.

This blog is just in its beginning stages, but I have big plans for the future and I hope to look back in a year’s time happy with the results here and with my running.

Until next time,

Let the Journey Begin

I have no idea where to start this post other than to say welcome! First off, this website is still a work in progress so if you see anything that needs changing or you have any suggestions, let me know! I always appreciate great advice! I made a website for promotion, so people can keep up to date on me if they want to, and to keep up my motivation. I have the tendency to start strong, but struggle with remembering the “why” behind what I do, and having something tangible like this site to update and look back on and to see y progress right in front of me is something I know I will love. So, now that this blurb is out of the way,
